Right Livelihood
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
Nominations for the 2026 Right Livelihood Award are now open!
Below you will see our current nomination forms.
Selection Process
- The deadline for submission of nominations to be valid for the current year is 30 January, 2026. Nominations are received only through our website.
- We request that nominators and nominees keep all nominations confidential. Publicly sharing information about a nomination will render the nominee ineligible to continue in the selection process.
- Once the nominator has submitted their section through the online form, our research team will then directly contact the nominee in order to acquire further information from them personally.
- A fundamental aspect of our process is our adherence to a “do no harm” principle. Therefore, we require the consent of all nominees to be considered for the award or, in cases of imprisonment, the consent of a family member or lawyer.
- Our Jury meets annually in August to select the Recipients. The year’s Laureates are then announced at a press conference in Stockholm, with the Award ceremony taking place later in the year.
- We ensure that all information provided by nominators and nominees will be stored securely by the Foundation, and used only for the purposes of the nomination.
Cash & Honorary Award
- Typically, the Jury selects recipients for three Cash Awards and one Honorary Award each year.
- The Cash Award includes a financial component, while the Honorary does not. For this reason, the Honorary Award is intended for nominees whose primary need is not cash. However, all Laureates receive the same level of support and access to the Right Livelihood network, regardless of the award type.
- The Cash Awards are intended for work in progress or the extension of existing activities; they are never given for personal use.
Important information for nominators:
- If you want to nominate a candidate, you will need to create a free Submittable account. You can complete this step by simply entering your name and email address. Here is a quick guide on how to get started: https://submittable.help/en/articles/904856-how-can-i-submit
- We will follow up with submitters regarding their submissions via email. Please be sure the email address used to create your Submittable Account is one that you check regularly.
- Please note that nominations with conflicts of interests will be declined (self-nominations, including nominating one's organisation; and nominations for relatives or colleagues working for the same organisation.)
- You can save a draft of your work if you would like to complete the form at a later date.
- Please note that each individual may only submit one nomination per year. Organisations may submit multiple nominations. However, please consider that receiving several nominations for one nominee does not improve their likelihood of winning the Award.
- Please reach out to Submittable's Customer Support team with any technical questions at support@submittable.com
- For further information, please visit our website, and for any questions directly relating to the process or information required, please contact our research team by email at research@rightlivelihood.org.
