Selection Process

- The deadline for submission of nominations to be valid for the current year is 1st March, 2024.

-  Once the nominator has submitted their section through the online form, our research team will then directly contact the nominee in order to acquire further points of information from them personally.

- A fundamental aspect of our process is our adherence to a “do no harm” principle. Therefore, we require the consent of all nominees to be considered for the award or, in cases of imprisonment, the consent of a family member or lawyer.

- Our Jury meets annually in September to select the Recipients. The year’s Laureates are then announced at a press conference in Stockholm, with the Award ceremony taking place later in the year.

- We have a strict rule that nominations and nominees for the Right Livelihood Award cannot be publicised. Infringement of this rule will make a nominee liable to disqualification.

- We ensure that all information provided by nominators and nominees will be stored securely by the Foundation, and used only for the purposes of the nomination.

Cash & Honorary Award

- Typically, the Jury selects recipients for three Cash Awards and one Honorary Award each year.

- The Honorary Award is intended for nominees whose primary need is not cash support but who would benefit from the considerable recognition and publicity, which the Right Livelihood Award generates.

The Honorary Award may also be applicable in cases where it is not safe for the nominee to receive future funds.

- The Cash Awards are intended for work in progress or the extension of existing activities; they are never given for personal use.

Prospective nominators who have not had previous contact with the Foundation are welcome to contact us via email (research@rightlivelihood.org) with any questions before making a formal submission.

Please note that you can save your progress as a draft, to return to later in order to complete the form.
